Can I cancel my car insurance policy?

Yes. You can cancel your policy online through My Account. If you choose to cancel your policy within 14 days of receiving your policy documentation, we will charge you an arrangement fee of £25, plus time on cover. If you cancel more than 14 days after receiving your policy documentation, we will charge you a fee of £55, plus time on cover.

This is providing no claims have been made. If a claim has been made, or there has been an incident which may lead to a claim, no refund will be given and all premiums will be due.

I don’t have my car anymore – what do I need to do?

If you’ve declared your vehicle as off-road (with a SORN), or it has been stolen or written-off, or if you’ve sold it, please give our customer team a call on 0330 159 1031, lines open Mon – Fri: 8am to 8pm, Sat: 8am to 6pm, Sun & Bank Hols: 10am to 4pm.

Our Customer team will be able to update your policy with your new car details or alternatively, you can cancel your insurance if you no longer have a vehicle.

Can I manage my policy (view, amend, renew and claim) online?

What is legal cover?

If you’re in an accident that’s not your fault, our Motor Legal Protection provides cover for legal expenses to help you and your passengers claim compensation for uninsured losses including personal injury. It provides up to £100,000 cover for legal expenses to pursue uninsured losses such as loss of earnings or your policy excess following a motor accident. Claims must be reported within 180 days, and the third party must have valid motor insurance at the time of an accident.

Is it safe to use my credit/debit card to purchase RAC Car Insurance?

Can you explain about the courtesy car benefit included in my comprehensive policy?

If your car requires repairs as the result of a claim, a courtesy car can be offered. This is most commonly a Class A car, with a 1 litre size engine such as a Kia Picanto.

This service is offered by the garage for the duration of the repairs on your car, and subject to availability.

All garages used are part of the RAC approved vehicle repair network. All terms, conditions and excesses on your policy apply to your use of the courtesy car.

How do I track my claim?

You can track your claim 24 hours a day, seven days a week by contacting our Claims team. Your claims number can be found in your policy documentation.

Do all RAC Comprehensive Car Insurance policies now include a courtesy car as standard?

Subject to availability, a courtesy car will be provided in the event of a claim as long as you use one of our approved repairers.

Will I lose my no-claims discount if the accident wasn't my fault?

Your no-claims discount won't be affected if you are shown to be not at fault and we can recover the costs from the other person's insurance.

Can I buy RAC car insurance over the phone?

How do I send you my proof of no claims?

If we have asked you to provide proof of your no claims status (NCD), please upload via the online self service centre.

Alternatively you can email it to [email protected] , quoting your RAC Car Insurance policy number.
